How it works
All courses are free and must be booked in advance. Please register your interest with your Active Schools Coordinator.
Places may be in high demand, so register your interest as soon as possible.
If you need to cancel, please let us know as soon as possible so your place can be offered to those on a waiting list.
What we need from you
Volunteers are asked to deliver a minimum of 4 hours of extracurricular activity in the sport/activity corresponding to the course attended.
This could be in your child’s school, a local primary school, a local additional support needs school, or in a community setting.
Active Schools will support volunteers to find the right setting and session to suit their diary and interests.

Course description
This workshop includes a mixture of theory and practical delivery to enable volunteers to positively include people with a disability in physical activity and sport.

Course description
Table Cricket is an adapted version of cricket that is played on a table-tennis table with teams of six taking it in turn to bowl or bat. The game has been specifically designed to give young people with a disability the chance to play and compete in the sport. This session will introduce participants to the equipment, rules and practices that can be used to engage young people in the sport.

Course description
Mini Fit training has been designed to support anyone who is delivering physical activity to pupils in Primary 1–3 classes. It provides volunteers with a wide variety of games that younger children can enjoy. The training includes helpful ideas on how to organise activities, as well as how to keep children safe whilst participating in inclusive activities.

Course description
Softball Cricket is a short form variation of the sport of cricket, played with a soft ball and plastic equipment. This fast paced and inclusive sport can be played indoors or outdoors, making it ideal for primary school delivery all year round. This training session will provide participants with a range of fun games to support young people who wish to learn more about playing the sport.

Course description
Makaton is a unique language programme that uses symbols, signs and speech to enable people to communicate. This session will give you a basic introduction to Makaton which will help you to support participants at your sports sessions.

Course description
This training will provide school staff with coaching ideas focussing on the fundamental athletics skills of running, jumping and throwing prior to the primary schools SUPERteams event. The training will be delivered by Springburn Harriers coaches who will also give an overview of how to use equipment correctly as well as the rules of each event.
