Tuesday 29 September to 17 November 2026
6:00pm to 7.30pm
Kilmardinny House
(the final session will be at the William Patrick Library, Kirkintilloch)
This series of eight workshops will give you the practical skills to start researching your own family history.
We will look at records such as census, birth, and marriage records, examine property records and maps, learn about tracing emigrant or immigrant ancestors, touch on DNA, offline records, and how to make the most of local resources.
The course is designed to be collaborative and interactive, with lots of practical examples, tips, and tricks. There will also be a hands-on session with archive documents and the local studies collection.
Participants require no prior research expertise but must be comfortable with computers and basic internet use.
Morag Peers is a Bearsden-based professional genealogist. She has been researching her own family history in southern Scotland for many years, and in 2023 graduated with a MSc in Genealogical Studies from the University of Strathclyde.
As well as helping clients from around the world with their own genealogical research, Morag speaks to family history societies and conferences on genealogy topics, and offers ancestral tourism planning, helping people with Scottish roots discover where their ancestors lived, worked, or worshipped.
